Importance and Duties of Disaster Nursing

Nurse have many important and difficult tasks in disaster situations. These include examining patients, caring for injuries, stabilizing critically ill patients, providing first aid and CPR, administering IV fluids, administering medications.

A disaster relief nurse needs to be ready for anything. It is very important to act in coordination and cooperation with our other teammates in disaster situations. Apart from these, since being a disaster nurse is not an easy thing, there are some things that should be considered and carefully considered before deciding to become a disaster nurse.

The most important thing to consider when deciding whether disaster nursing is right for you is your resilince. This stamina isn’t just the stamina that regular nurses have when they’re on duty for 12 hours or more. You must be physically fit enough to handle it. Resilience is very important because you will encounter a lot of things that can affect you psychologically in the environment you are in a disaster.

In summary, the importance and difficulties of disaster nursing are as follows.

Challenges of Disaster Nursing

Challenges of Disaster Nursing

Disaster nursing is one of the riskiest nursing departments in my opinion. Because the environment where you work and intervene is not a hospital, and the airn is to maximize the health of the community affected by the disaster.

Disaster nursing does not work alone as it intervenes in life-threating situations. However, disaster nursing is not only obliged to provide emergency care and first aid service after disasters and the necessity to take part in every stage of disaster management has made disaster nursing a specialty on its own.

While all these are happening, health nurses who intervene in disaster have effects on mental healt as much as the scoiety is affected. Intervening in disaster victims, listening to the event with all its detalis, seeing a large number of people die, and inability to meet the health needs of hundreds of people can cause secondary traumatization in nurses. For this reason, standard precautions should be applied fort he protection of mental health for nurses who intervene in disaster.

These are just a few of the challenges of disaster nursing.
